i’m joking! i will say the past month off has been fan-fucking-tastic, art and craft wise, maybe not as great $$$ wise, and you would think with all this free time i’d vacuum more but alas, that is not the case. i have slept a lot. more than i have in a long time. i think i might have been tired. i also think after spending so many months all wound up and freaked out and anxious, my body was relieved to have a break. my brain has also been having fun not thinking about math.
(i do have a job lined up, i am on the schedule, but won’t start until next week i think.)
until then, i’ve been turing gelli printed papers into little books! the insides are a mix of kraft paper pages, blank sketchbook pages, and printed bits and bobs.
this is yesterday’s batch.
some got stamped and put in xmas presents.
this is actually a bit of parchment paper for baking; i use it to pick up paint and then it makes these delicate little pages you can write on with alcohol ink (i.e. sharpies!).
i kept a couple for myself, and put a bunch more in the mail this week. i feel like they can be used for journaling, sketching, saving stickers/ephemera, etc. they feel so good to make. i’ve always loved making books, maybe 2021 will end up being paper based rather than fabric based. we will see!
no gods, no masters, no resolutions. we’re all doing our best, and as we all know now, most everything is out of our control. i’m glad to see the back end of 2020, but trying to not to get too far ahead of myself.
while making books this week i stumbled upon a youtube channel that specializes in retrofuturism. it’s called picsandportraits. i’m a huge fan of their sleepcore series of videos, but this video is a good intro into what you’ll find on the channel. (there is so much good old ephemera on this channel! some of it is jaw dropping in its, uh…old fashioned-ness [racism! i’m talking racism! and misogyny!] but it’s all amazing and gives you a good idea of what might have shaped boomer ideologies. in the immortal words of marge simpson, “i just think it’s neat.”)
That video is great! I'm going to have to check out their channel for sure. Animation propaganda? I'm so on it.
